    How to obtain Passport and Consular services
    Application forms for the Passport and Consular services can be submitted to the High Commission of India, Lagos on working days between 9.00 a.m. and 11.00 a.m.

    Issue of New Passports
    Indian passports are now issued with a validity of 10 years. Their renewal thereafter involves the issue of a new passport. This section also applies to persons requiring additional booklets where their passport has run out of available pages for visas, etc.
  • Completed application forms for new passport ( refer this site to download forms).
  • Four passport-sized photographs one of which should be pasted in the space provided for the purpose and also signed across the photograph. The remaining three photographs to be clipped/stappled photocopy of the passport.
  • The fee to be paid in cash in local currency ( currency notes below N 50/- will not be accepted).
  • An application for a new passport can be made at any time within one year of the expiry of passport.

    Renewal of Passports
    Sometimes the passports are issued for a short validity of six months/one year due to urgency in order to enable the applicant to travel pending clearance from the Passport Issuing Authority (PIA). Further validations of such passport (s) involve (s) renewal.
    This section applies only for renewal of such passports.

    Issue of Duplicate Passports/Travel Documents in Lieu of Lost Passports
  • Completed application form for issue of duplicate passport/other travel document in lieu of lost, stolen or damaged passport together with the following documents.
  • Completed Form A.
  • Duly notarized affidavit.
  • 7 recent full-face passport size photographs.
  • The fee to be paid in cash in local currency.
  • Police report in case of lost or stolen passport.
  • Photocopy of the last passport

    Change of Name Maiden to married name
  • Completed application form for a new passport ( see 'Issue of New Passports' above for form and details of documents required )
  • Original marriage certificate issued by Registrar of Marriages with a photocopy
  • Husband's passport
  • An affidavit in the prescribed form

    Other changes of name
  • Completed application form for a new passport ( see 'Issue of New Passports' above for details of documents required )
  • The fee to be paid in cash in local currency
  • Copies of advertisements in a local newspaper of the area of applicant's residence.
  • Copy of advertisement in two national dailies of the area of permanent residence of the applicant in India.

  • Sworn affidavits from Notary Public of Solicitor authorized to administer oath in prescribed format

    VISA WING
    THE PIO CARD FOR PERSONS OF INDIAN ORIGIN
    The Government of India understands and respects your need to be close to your place of origin and has accordingly launched the 'PIO Card' scheme, aimed at making the journey back to your roots, simpler, easier, flexible and trouble free.

    Who is eligible ?

    Any person :
  • Who at any time held an Indian passport; or
  • He/she or either of his/her parents or grandparents or great grandparents was born in and permanently resident in India as defined in the Government of India Act, 1935 and other territories that became part of India thereafter provided neither was at any time a citizen of any country as may be specified by the Central Government from time to time; or
  • Who is a spouse of a citizen of India or a Person of Indian Origin as mentioned above. The scheme is broad-based, covers up to four generations and also the foreign spouse of a citizen of India or a PIO.

    What benefits accrue to a PIO Card holder ?
  • No visa required for visiting India
  • Exemption from the requirement of registration if stay in India does not exceed 6 months. Should the continuous stay exceed 6 months, registration will be required within 30 days of the expiry of 6 months with the concerned Foreigners Registration Officer
  • Parity with non-resident Indians in respect of facilities available to the latter in economic, financial and educational fields.
  • All facilities in the matter of acquisition, holding, transfer and disposal of immovable properties in India except in matters relating to the acquisition of agricultural/plantation properties.
  • Facilities available to children of NRIs for getting admission to educational institutions in India including medical colleges, engineering colleges, Institutes of Technology, Institutes of Management etc. under the general categories. · Facilities available under the various housing schemes of LIC, State Governments and other Government agencies.

    Where to apply for the PIO Card ?
  • Applications should be made to an Indian Mission in the country where the applicant ordinarily resides.
  • Applicants already in India on Long Term Visa ( more than one year) should make the application for issue of a PIO Card to the following authorities :
